Method to apply for PAN card

It is easy to apply for PAN card and you can select to do so online or by bodily submitting it at a PAN card centre. PAN is known as Permanent Account Number and is a 10 digit alphanumeric that is provided by the IT department. It is plastic-coated on a card that is why it is normally called as a PAN card. PAN allows the IT department to connect all the transactions of the assessee involving tax payments, TDS or TCS credits, income returns, and post.

There are various benefits to have a PAN card. They involve the following:

1. It is obligatory for all transactions with the IT department to have the PAN card information.

2. It is required for opening bank accounts

3. Needed for applying for credit

4. Needed for creating high value purchases, and carrying out transactions in fixed properties among others

You can apply for a PAN card by putting forward appropriate form with the necessary documentation and charges at the PAN application centre of UTIITSL or NSDL.  

You can also create an online application by putting forward Form 49A either via portal of NSDL or UTITSL.

The fees for applying for PAN online have been grown with effect from June 2015 to Rs. 107 (involving service tax) for Indian residents and Rs. 989 (involving service tax) for abroad residents. Once the application and payment is received, you require sending the sustaining documents via courier or post to NSDL or UTITSL.

Ways to check PAN card status

As you already know that there are two methods for applying for a PAN card, one is via NSDL and another one is via UTIITSL, as there are diverse methods to verify the PAN card status. Just go through this post to find out how to check PAN card status via application number as well.
Check pan card status through UTIITSL Website

1. First of all, go to the UTIITSL PAN Card Status Tracker Link or you may just go to the following link –https://www.myutiitsl.com/PAN_ONLINE/trackApp

2. You will then come to a page that states – Provide information to Track your PAN Card Application Status.

3. After this, you will have to give the Application Coupon number (the one mentioned on the acknowledgement slip).

4. Click on Submit button.

5. After doing this, information regarding your PAN card Application Status will be shown on the screen.

Check PAN Status Online through NSDL Website

1. Primarily, you should visit the authorized website of NSDL or you may also go to the given link – https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pantan/StatusTrack.html

2. After that, choose Application Type

3. Next, choose any one from Acknowledgement number or Name

4. If you have chosen the Acknowledgement number, then you need to write the fifteen digit numeric number and if it involves Name, then give full name in the order of – Surname or last name, initial name and the middle name. This has to be similar as it is in application form.

5. Next to writing this, you will have to also give any one of the dates described– Partnership or Trust Deed, Incorporation, Date of Birth, Individuals, Formation of Body of Agreement, Association of Persons

6. Click on Submit button

7. After doing this, information regarding your PAN card status will be shown on the screen
